How to Make Your Next Photo Session Feel Natural & Fun
You know that awkward “stand here and smile” family photo pose? Yeah, we’re not doing that. We are going to focus on natural family photos. As a Marietta family photographer, my goal is to make your session feel more like a fun family hangout—with me tagging along to capture the magic. If stiff and awkward isn’t your vibe, here’s how to make sure your next photo session feels relaxed, natural, and full of joy.
1. Tickle Your Kids (or Spouse—Go for It!)
Nothing brings out real laughter faster than a little tickle attack. If your toddler is getting restless or your partner is overthinking their “natural smile,” a quick tickle instantly breaks the tension and brings out those authentic, joy-filled moments. Bonus: It makes for the best candid photos. Natural family photos mean you are just having fun being yourself and I cultivate the best environment for this with my stress- free approach.
2. Focus on Connecting with Your Family, Not the Camera
The best family photos aren’t about “perfect” smiles—they’re about real moments. Instead of worrying about where to look, focus on your family. Snuggle your little one, whisper something silly to your partner, or soak in the moment. The more you connect with each other, the more natural and heartfelt your photos will be.
3. Get Moving! Walk, Dance, or Play a Game
Standing still is overrated. Movement brings life into your photos! Walk hand-in-hand, twirl your toddler around, have a family dance-off, or even play a quick game of tag or Red Light, Green Light. Not only does this keep kids engaged, but it also creates the best candid, joy-filled shots.
