What Happens When the Weather Doesn’t Cooperate for Your Family or Maternity Session?
We’ve all been there—looking forward to a session for weeks, only to check the forecast and see rain clouds or gusty winds threatening your plans. But don’t worry! Weather hiccups don’t mean your session is doomed. With a flexible plan and a little creativity, we’ll ensure your photos are just as stunning as you imagined. Here’s how I handle less-than-perfect weather to keep your experience stress-free and enjoyable.
Wondering what happens when the weather doesn’t cooperate for your photo session? Learn how we adapt to ensure stunning family and maternity photos rain or shine:
1. Reschedule Options
If the forecast looks truly gross—think heavy rain or strong winds—we’ll reschedule to the next available date that works for you. After all, I want you to have the best light and setting possible for your photos! We also don’t want saturated grounds because I do sit my families on the ground and we also want to avoid kiddos falling in the mud and ruining their clothes if possible.
2. Embracing Overcast Skies
Cloudy days often result in soft, even lighting that’s incredibly flattering for portraits. Some of my favorite sessions have been shot under overcast skies, which create a dreamy and moody atmosphere.
3. Rainy-Day Backup Plans
For maternity and family sessions, indoor options can be just as magical. Whether it’s a cozy in-home session or a nearby covered location, we can make the most of any weather challenge. Plus, there’s something so unique and intimate about photos in a space that feels personal to you.
4. Trust the Process
I’ve worked through unpredictable weather many times over the years and know how to adapt quickly. Whether it’s a quick location switch or pausing for a passing drizzle, I’ll guide you every step of the way to keep the experience relaxed and fun.
Bad weather doesn’t have to ruin your session—it can actually add a unique story to your photos! Let’s roll with the punches and create something amazing together, no matter what the skies have in store.
